I changed my docker installation to rootless. I now installed Patchmon on the host and I wanted to monitor and update my Docker images as well. But Patchmon requires docker.sock to be in /var/run. My current docker.sock is of course in /run/user/{userid}. Are there any security risks, and if so what are they, to making a symlink to have the docker.sock in /var/run as well? The /run/user/{userid}/docker.sock is owned by the user running Docker. The symlink is owned by root because of the privileges needed for /var/run.

Trying to find a way to connect to my home server as well as my VPN at the same time. Doesn’t seem like tailscale can. I’ve started looking at pangolin, has anyone had any luck with this issue?

First, I know that Unraid is not FOSS and I’m a month late, just to get that out of the way. But for those that are running Unraid and haven’t updated to >7.3.0, there’s good reason to (other than for security patches): internal boot and TPM licensing.

They have Synology NAS, but they wait when I set up some stuff. They have images on one of the drives and we were able to display via network on old tv, but I feel like more stuff could be added.

So I came here while researching for the problems with qt5 theme. So in the archi wiki it says -

Do you host your own ML / AI / LLM? What do you use, and what do you use it for?

I have and old laptop with some good screen but awful audio. What i want is to stream the audio on my decent tablet to use it as a speaker. This is not a server cloud or anything similar, just a pc with some linux distro installed.

I have a personal server I connect to through Tailscale whenever I’m not home, however I’ve found that whenever I’m connecting remotely connection speed drops drastically from 100MB/s to <3MB/s.

I am currently running Xubuntu on all my systems but there are so many things that feel rather unstable/buggy - I am sure it is not all Xubuntus/Xfce’s fault, but my knowledge is limited so I just attribute it to that.

The only working PC I have is a 32-bit x86 and has a minimal Debian installation. I need to flash a USB with an ISO file from it to make a live system. I tried for a few days to get flathub or appimage working there, but just can’t. I decided an apt package would be the easiest course of action, but neither Rufus, Impress or BalenaEtcher seem to be available in default repos. It there a program that is there? A bare .elf executable with no packaging would also be fine.

I’m living with my dad for the summer and his internet setup makes no sense. I’m a simple man who uses Ethernet when possible and I’ve never had coverage issues because I’m a poor who lives in apartments. So this mesh network stuff is new to me. He has a 3000sqft house and clearly had coverage issues

A question about Linux blocks on streaming sites. Is there a way to go around them?

Our family has a bunch of people whose birthdays we need to keep track of. Those birthdays matter to everyone, so we would like to have one shared birthday calendar. The calendar should come with an android app that at least sends reminder notifications about birthdays.

Are there at least some plans to implement screensavers into Wayland? Is there any way to override Wayland’s restrictions and set a screensaver up?

I’m trying to find an app for iOS that supports the nested feeds of comma feed. Anyone got any ideas? I have three level nested folders. It’s peri unruly trying to manage my feeds without the nested folders as I have a LOT of feeds

I’ve tried NextCloud before and didn’t really love it and I’m now happy with a combination of syncthing and LibreOffice. But my wife wants the full google drive, with sheets, docs etc. without the google, and I think NextCloud is my best option for that.

I used to create songs in FL Studio when I used Windows, but now I have switched to Fedora. Does FL Studio run well via wine, or I should better pick a Linux-native DAW? How do I handle Windows vst3 plugins? It is possible to switch to native Linux solutions, but I would actually like to preserve my regular workflow within FL. Any relevant tips and advice are welcome

Moved to using KDE recently and it’s everything I’ve ever wanted in aesthetics and customization. Unfortunately, dolphin doesn’t refresh when files are moved around and while I tried to accept it, I just can’t. Showing me where files are is literally the only job of a file manager.

I am one of a network of academic researchers from around the world working on collecting media market data. One problem is that referenced sources often disappear which makes validation later difficult or impossible. So, I thought I would recommend self-hosting something like archive.org that would allow affiliated researchers to submit their web references and have their sources efficiently archived in a central project repository. That would allow validation and continuity for when web-hosted text and files disappear or researchers leave.

Hello, I’m looking for a simple collaborative text editor. We do have an office 365 subscription and it works, but the 10 minutes loading time every time you open a document are taking a strain on my mental sanity.

I’ve heard about Kavita and CWA. Kavita can’t fetch metadata sadly and it has too much behind the “+” service and CWA, as far as I know, is not very good for managing Manga and Comic.
