Folks,

Lately my system has been freezing and completely unresponsive. ctrl+alt+backspace, reisub, nothing works and I have to hard reset. I found some logs, syslog, and have posted a few leading up to the freeze. They’re all from ProtonVPN (I’m on beta). I’m hoping there’s something I can do without just not using ProtonVPN, assuming proton is the culprit. Can anyone make sense of this?

EDIT: Oh my god, sorry, I’m an idiot who forgot that the Jellyfin subtitles setting menu had a save button you needed to press. ALSO, Simultaneously, I posted this earlier than I intended; I thought to myself “OK I’ll try this one last thing and if that doesn’t work then I’ll give up and ask for help”, and then went and wrote this post while I waited for the DVD to rip - and then I went and posted it as soon as I was done writing, without waiting for the one last attempt to finish. It turns out that removing the --subtitle scan flag fixes the problem. So I double shouldn’t have posted this. Sorry for taking up your time, I saw an option to hide this post so I think I’ll be doing that now.

I discovered this two days ago. It’s an alternative shell for tiling managers like hyprland, niri, sway or others. Basically, it makes configuration of those WM really integrated. It’s a click and forget approach, which makes configuration really fast. Cherry on the top : it is compatible with every distro out there! I highly suggest to try to pair with niri.

So, I installed Linux Mint not too long ago, and while I’ve been able to do what I want to do without touching the Terminal, I am a bit curious how it works, and whether it could help me.

I need Firefox’s address bar to suggest "switch to tab" above all other suggestions so that I don't end up with 14 tabs of Google Calendar dinging about an upcoming meeting split seconds apart.

I just got WSL working (so I can make pebble watchfaces) any other cool stuff I could do with this not quite real Linux?

My parents are looking into getting their own NAS to replace iCloud. I don’t really have much experience with that, and zero experience with apple stuff. They are also not very techy, but at least enthusiastic.

Hey folks. My understanding of the self-hosting world is that Proxmox is kinda the king of the roost, and deservedly so. I use it myself both for personal and work projects, and love what it provides. I’ve also used TrueNAS Core/SCALE, and of course just traditional Linux desktop or server distros of various sorts for projects, but out of the corner of my eye has always been sitting XCP-NG. It seems like it could be a real contender in the space.

Hi, I have a problem accessing Paperless-ngx when I’m connected to my home network from a VPN. I’ve tried to make a simple sketch of my setup: Phone –> Wireguard –> Public Internet –> Unifi Wireguard server –> Home Network

Been Manjaro for years and years. Latest update (due to my own screw-up…not the distro’s fault) shit the bed and corrupted my timeshift backups (again…my fault…not the distro)

Use case: I want to mirror a bunch of repositories of a project. I suppose this would be pretty easy with a script.

There are a few Docker projects I haven’t been able to properly implement in my homelab, only because their images need to be user-compiled and Dockge doesn’t seem to have an option to include the entire repository required for the project compilation in its interface or in the stacks directory. I know I could just host them in a separate directory but I would like my services to be manageable from a single place and following this approach isolates the service from being controlled from Dockge.

I’d like to set up a self-hosted newsletter. Do you have any recommendations of free software solutions? I would obviously host it on top of a Linux VM.

Spotify, freetube, youtube website, either it’s a streaming issue or an audio playback issue. Whenever my cpu is working too hard audio playback stutters and delays making it unlistenable. Actually some games have alright audio so I think it’s a streaming issue. Anyway I want to know how to prioritise sound streaming or playback cpu in linux?

What things do you self host (or know about) that are fun/interesting/useful to you? I’m thinking of setting up a home server and am looking for things that would be useful or fun for me to run on it. I want to host things that are useful/fun, but not a project itself (I’ve got enough projects), if that makes sense.

Hi Linux Lemmites. Recently finished up school and started working full time and kind of miss working on personal projects. I’m looking to try to make something in rust and try out gpui if I can figure it out or maybe egui. I also want to make something maybe even a handful of people would actually use as I find that motivating, so I ask what would actually be useful to you?

I mean, who thought of this as a good idea? I find it rather distracting. I’m trying to SSH into a computer and blam…a massive pop-up blocks me from reading what was before or anything else…just the pop-up in front, blocking text. It has the hidden password text field thing, but this one is to type yes/no to whether accept the server’s cert. Y hit enter after typing yes…and blam, another pop-up, this one is for the actual password.

Still pretty new to Linux, I’m on Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS and had some issues with updates through the updater with errors and so I did sudo apt update/upgrade instead. Something went wrong and had errors, and after a reboot I had no internet access, Ethernet or WiFi, and no options to connect to anything. Running sudo lshw -c network showed unclaimed networks.

TL;DR: bitlocker does not like grub

[TL;DR: I’m looking for resources on Linux so I can catch up and become reacquainted with it. Are there any all-encompassing media about Linux itself, and stuff like backing up, snapshots, file systems, dual-booting, customization, etc. I can use as a reference/ learning material?]
