Just like the big tech companies have different ToS for EU consumers.
Mad respect to them, but it should be normal. But it's not.
Also like California passing public health laws and companies deciding it is easier to comply to the entire U.S. instead of duplicating product lines.

It's so disappointing. India has a massive tech service industry and could've been a force for good, but the government loves their censorship and authoritarianism too much.
The limited view I have into the CEO culture there seems even more toxic than America's.
It also helps that unlike the R and the C in BRICS, they aren't imperialists threatening and/or invading their neighbours. Brazil is a good world citizen.

BRICS is such a loosely linked group that generalising like that is just never going to be accurate; Indian and South African, for example, policy on tech regulation couldn't be more different if they tried.
Don't get me wrong, I think BRICS is a good organisation for economic cooperation between these very diverse countries, but there's really no common political, social or economic characteristics.
Brazil is a good example of that, because under Bolsonaro, it couldn't have been more different - regulations on big tech and banning X would never have happened under his tenure (well, at least not with the same goals)

A modern use case: I like RSS in my terminal so I use newsboat but hate it opening firefox and swapping me out of the terminal when I want to read more. So I have it use lynx instead.
I also have a computer without a DE that can browse the web (lynx), look at pictures (JP2a), watch movies (I don't recall the name of the program but it converts the video to ASCII), edit word docs (take your pick), and send email (mail).
I've always preferred w3m or links over lynx.

as a PSA, before 🫵you post images on the internet, it's important to put alt text whenever you can. Some people need screen readers to acess the web, and it can give context to help understand it. Give a good description, and if there's text on it, include that in the alt text. Acessibility is important!
