TIL Philadelphia Cream Cheese is produced in New York, and always has been since it was invented by William Lawrence in 1872. He named his company Philadelphia to market off of the city's reputation

The bigger TIL for me is that Philadelphia Cream Cheese *invented cream cheese*

In 1872 William Lawrence, a dairyman from Chester, New York, attempted to make Neufchâtel, a tangy, crumblier cheese product that was popular in Europe at the time. Instead he accidentally added an excessive amount of cream and created a richer, more spreadable cheese, which would eventually be called "cream cheese".

I wonder how long until they put it on a bagel and what they were doing with it before then

Doubt the Philadelphia I get is produced in NY. Sure is made on some town in São Paulo.

For Germany, it's in Bad Fallingbostel, halfway between Hamburg and Hannover.

Mine's probably from some peak suburbia town with a name stolen from England in southern Ontario.

That’s funny, most New Yorkers I know love Temptee way more than Philadelphia

Man I haven't had this in forever. Is it still good or have they changed the formula?
