Looks like Microsoft finally managed to break the trend.

And by that I mean the trend of alternating between releasing a good or at least relatively decent product, and then becoming arrogant and releasing an absolute turd that tries to shove functions features that nobody except the out of touch Microsoft corporate dipshits and investors want down the throats of its users, resulting in a complete commercial failure, which then prompts them into actually listening to what their consumer base wants, resulting into another decent product.

This time they're really doubling down on it in a fit of corporate hubris. AI everything and cloud computing is only something investors want, not the users.

It's forcing Kinect on the Xbox One all over again. It's forcing that shit metro interface on desktop users in Windows 8 all over again as well. Except it's even worse now. They never learn.

Imagine buying an AI terminal that will later force you to get a paid subscription plan for their cloud AI services in order to work.

First time watching on PeerTube. Great video as always!

it’s pretty nice but it’s nice

@thelinuxexperiment
Every Windows version starting with Windows 8 has been Linux biggest chance. To the point where I didn't expect any converts from Windows 11 - those that didn't leave when Windows 10 was forced upon them clearly like the familiarity and feeling of safety inside their cage.

And yet they keep coming. Apparently even the most agoraphobic cage dweller has a breaking point where the cage becomes uncomfortable enough that they venture outside. And somehow Microsoft is getting really good at making the cage uncomfortable.

I'm worried about the release of Windows 12. Not because of the privacy implications or the fact that it seems to just become a glorified Co-Pilot machine that always has some connection to the cloud, but because the precedent it sets. Let me explain...

I know most people who watch this channel (or hell, everyone who's on the Fediverse) are against stuff like this, but consider the normal person. They are caught in the AI hype. The people I talk to in real life not only boarded the hype train, but now rely on AI now for even simple tasks. Its absurd yet that's becoming the reality we live in. I think when an OS like this ships to consumers, it won't just come out. It will be pushed, and pushed hard. Maybe Apple will follow suit with MacOS, and maybe smartphones too.

If it'll be a failed experiment, that'll be fine. I'm more worried about where this kind of thinking from tech companies will lead us.

@basil_disco I work in higher education. I've had four meetings in the past two weeks about how AI policies at my college and the state-wide system. Microsoft is pushing AI hard in education. It's bad enough that our students' brains have been cooked by COVID-induced online learning. AI is only going to make that worse.

A certain number will switch from Windows 11 to Linux with the coming of Windows 12. Just as a certain number switched, when Windows 11 had certain pre-requisits. I hope I am wrong, but so far every new Windows version has been adopted and only a handful switch. I've seen this since the early oughts. Every new Windows version from XP to now Windows 12 has been touted as the chance for Linux to "take over". It just never seems to materialize.
