I have several hummingbird feeders about and a few seed feeders for the other critters. During the winter I try to keep the seeders stocked up so everyone gets a little something. During summer I keep the hummingbird feeders full and back off on the seeders so that the seed eaters can forage like they should.
Now the observation.
When the seed feeders are empty for a few days/week the hummingbird traffic will almost come to a halt until the seeder is stocked. I don’t really understand what I’m seeing. Are hummingbirds more social in that they feel more secure with other birds about? I wouldn’t think it would matter since they are not really in competition for food, other than few insects they share. Nothing important just rambling.
