The star of yesterday’s frenzy, this cute little one let us take snaps while it was perched probably 12 feet up. Thanks to the birder who spotted it and of course to Karl who went out of his way to message the group and share the location.

The Philippine Scops owl, also Luzon lowland scops owl is a common owl, endemic to the Philippines, belonging to the family of the typical owls Strigidae. Other common names include “Otus Whitehead”, “Whitehead scops owl” and “Luzon lowland scops owl”.

Otis Whitehead? I saw them at Delta Tau Chi back in the day, what a great show!

It feels like a placeholder name they forgot to update. Its head isn’t even very white.
