The dog has one of the Great Old Ones reassuring him with pats and treats tho. If the King in Yellow had played with u and fed u for ur entire life and let you sleep in his berth of unspeakable blackness at night, and then hugged you reassuringly when Cthulhu rose from the depths, you might be able to handle it better too

Maybe I’m just more cynical than I thought, but isn’t that kind of the biggest draw of religion, organized or cultish? Finding an unfathomable sugar daddy to help make some sense of and/or comfort us through inexplicable realities beyond our ken? Like Entropy, What Happens When We Die, and Why Are Other People Like That.
Damn, why ARE other people like that?
Except they also invent a whole new set of unimaginable horrors for you to be terrified of and then comfort you from those too. Angels? Samsara? Apocalypse? Fucking Naglfar?!?
I’ll take just thinking about it on sleepless nights and loving the people close to me and making the best of the time I have while I’m here. Fuck religion.
What’s cynical about that? Dumb people still feel fear?

There is already a horror movie set entirely from a dogs perspective, and its really good!
I want to read a Lovecraft story in which a cultist awakens the slumbering gods to ask for head pats, then begs the gods to unlock the portal to the land of countless trees because the cultist really needs to poop.
We take 99% of what we see and do on faith. We all fly, but how many people can actually pilot an airplane, much less build one. Same with medicines we take,
I assume most people that fly and aren’t pilots or build aircraft know that it flies using the wings and engine. That they don’t engineering or aerodynamics doesn’t mean people find it an incomprehensible horror when a metal box suddenly takes flight.
I think you’re giving a lot of people too much credit. And children.
Horror? No.
Incomprehensible? Yes.
Incomprehensible? No.
You can teach a 6 year old the basics of flight with a paper airplane.
