I already said it, #HolosSocial is by far my most ambitious project. But most of you know me and support me for #Fedilab.Right now I try to fairly balance the work between these two big projects. My smaller projects feel more like a break.Please be honest, this matters to me:

Working on open source apps is a big challenge. Everything is made possible through your bug reports, your feedback, and also your financial contributions, which is for me the hardest part to talk about. They cover the server costs, and they also help me in my daily life.

#HolosDiscover is a search engine dedicated to the #Fediverse. It does not scrape content, because it speaks #ActivityPub and respects each user's choice to opt in or out.The most respectful alternative, open to all and full of content to explore.

#HolosSocial relay is confirmed to be very stable. I will officially tag it soon so admins can run their own relay with a script to easily install it on their VPS.Using Holos with a custom domain and a cloud for media allows you to own your portable identity on the #Fediverse. Relays become only an infrastructure for it. Your device runs the #ActivityPub server and works as smoothly as any other app. Micro-blogging, media, and video, all from a single account. Switch with a simple tap.

Concerning media descriptions and the suggestions I made, I think I will not go further. I mostly saw division between people, and a suggestion for an enhancement in an app should never cause that. Even if all the features were opt-in, I do not want to create any division, as that would go against what I want to bring to the #Fediverse. Thank you for your feedback and your understanding.

On holiday, I had the chance to reproduce an issue with IPv6 and #Fedilab. It all happened through a WiFi repeater: the app got stuck on each start because IPv6 was available but not routable. I used this opportunity to fix it and let the app gracefully fall back to IPv4 when it happens.

I talked about an Open Source AI solution to describe media. But what about audio that writes the text for you? When a description is missing, it lets you speak, writes the text for you, and you confirm. Would you like this in #Fedilab?

Recently I told you about the offline translator available on #FDroid.f-droid.org/packages/dev.davidCurrently, translating opens the translator app. The idea is to keep everything inside #Fedilab: the translated text comes straight back into the post, so you never leave the app. You do not even notice it used another app in the background. It is already done in #HolosSocial, and I will add it to Fedilab.

Being on holiday helps a lot for debugging. I noticed that over WiFi, #Fedilab keeps loading until I shut down IPv6. Being able to reproduce it makes it an easy fix to gracefully handle this situation.

I would like to apologise to people using Fedilab about my recent messages.The goal is not to impose anything on users. Most features added are helpers that can be turned on.Asking your opinion allows me to evaluate your expectations, and whether I should go further.I maybe naively suggested a feature to help, without thinking how it could hurt some of you.

I am a little confused by the reactions to my last suggestion. It makes me wonder if I should also stop #LibreTranslate in #Fedilab, because it also uses AI. But it was already trained. When I use it, I only run it, I do not train it. I would like to hear your views before I decide anything.We can keep talking here calmly, I am really open to it.

#Fedilab and #HolosSocial allow using the offline translator for #Android, and the app is available on #FDroid.I would like to encourage every F-Droid user to use it and enable it in Fedilab.

But LibreTranslate, one of the most ethical translation services and already used by #Fedilab on its own server, was still built through AI, with pretrained neural models. The real question is not the technology itself, it is where your data goes. And here nothing leaks, since everything stays on my own server: a local model, no cloud and no third party.The feature is only here to help disabled people, and only you can validate the content.

The only service being abused on my server is the translation one with #LibreTranslate, so I am going to introduce an API key that will discard a lot of bots.

An idea for #Fedilab: a feature to generate a description for your photos to help accessibility. You post an image, and a suggested alt text comes back for you to review and edit before publishing. It would run on a self-hosted open source vision model (#MoonDream: github.com/vikhyat/moondream) on my own server, in a closed loop with no cloud, no third-party service and no image stored. Would this be useful to you?

Having media with no description might be frustrating. Would you like a feature in #Fedilab to filter out posts with such media?

Using #Fedilab while on holiday with a degraded network connection is really a pain. The app should immediately load the cache, with an indicator showing it is still trying to load the content, instead of a full loader waiting for a timeout.I will fix that quickly.

Federation with PixelFed instances has been restored. Apparently a past, temporary block of outdated PixelFed instances got persisted into a block of PixelFed instances.

If you are a polyglot, #Fedilab introduces a feature for you: detect the language before posting. A pop-up lets you quickly change the language before posting to the #Fediverse.You can easily enable this feature in the settings.

For all the projects that I maintain, it is impossible to keep track of bugs through DMs or email (automatic crash reports not included). If you do not receive an answer, I am really sorry, but I will not be able to cover it.#Codeberg remains the only place to submit them. Thank you.

I am at a stage with #HolosDiscover where I wonder if I should make it a separate project with its own server, or just clean up the DB from old messages. Of course, all messages are removed or updated as soon as the OP makes the action, but keeping such an amount of data impacts the infra I run alone for all my services. I have no way to track how it is used, so your feedback matters.

#HolosSocial will soon be available on #AltStore PAL, which means no computer needed to install it. altstore.io/I will also publish #CastLab on iOS through AltStore PAL.

#Fedilab now lets you set a custom colour for DMs in your timelines, making them easier to spot. Just search for DM in settings to find it.

#HolosSocial lets you run your own #ActivityPub server on your device. The goal is to let everyone using AP with a phone or a computer reach full independence, through custom domains and by hosting your media on your own cloud. This is not a hack of AP (as I have read), everything stays within the spec. The project simply lets you be fully independent. You can reach full independence step by step. And #E2EE DMs already work through AP.

I have no way to know exactly how an app I work on is used. But recently, I noticed that the previous release of #CastLab (1.4.0, 1.5.0 was published today) got more than 500 downloads of the APK on #Codeberg though it is also available on #FDroid. That is close to what #Fedilab does.Quite a surprise for an app that I initially built to cast my videos and pictures after vacations and hoped it could interest others :)

Users might have noticed better responsiveness from it.The app is already available on #AltStore for iOS, and will be on the #PALStore. It is available with the apk, ipa and all the desktop files on the website and #Codeberg. It is also on #FDroid, but releases are stuck on 1.8.1, which I will fix.Publishing on the big stores like Google Play or the App Store is not my goal.What do you think?

#CastLab 1.5.0 is available. You can now control playback and use the seek bar directly from the casting notification and the lock screen. I also fixed an issue where casting would stop when the app went to the background, so your media keeps playing while you do other things.
