I wonder if this will be just one in a wave of derivative distros rebasing from Ubuntu to Debian? I think doing so has been in the cards as a distinct future possibility for many of them, most overtly so with Mint’s LMDE variant - even if it’s ostensibly just an alternative, I think it’s clear to everyone that it’s always been about making sure they have a viable, working alternative, for the day when an Ubuntu base is no longer tenable.

Is anyone aware of whether there have been other distros rebasing from Ubuntu to Debian lately?

Not that I know of.

Kind of wish Zorin did the same.

But there needs to be some kind of in between, between testing and stable.

Edit: Ubuntu was the in between. They had packages that were slightly more recent.

It’s a lot of work though to do all the testing.

Many distros are now based on Debian Testing. I feel like they could come together and maintain a shared stable base, similar to what Ubuntu used to be for them. Kinda like the Open Gaming Collective guys did for their kernel development.

Debian is slow on updates (updates every 2 years), Debian Testing is too raw

I think many would want something in between, like Ubuntu updates every 6 months
