As far as I know, the software used by Fediverse, a decentralized social networking site, makes information public due to its decentralized nature, and as a result, it’s often possible to obtain feeds of the latest information via RSS.
On the tension in the DSA, that needs Big Tech platforms to exist so it can regulate them, while the fediverse does away with large platforms altogether.
The academic meme community here is absolutely ace! But what I would also like is to communicate with other academics in my field and share the latest publication and talk about it a bit if possible with peers.
I’ve recently made some updates to the ActivityPub Relay I maintain. This includes a regularly updated list of connected instances for monitoring their status and having an easy way to refer to instances for inquiry. I’ve also added a relay policy which states instances will be banned for featuring bigoted content or having poor admin/uptime.
Heya! :D
So i wanted to ask regarding as to if its possible to see Upvotes on my Profile or if thats just a Thing thats depending on what UI my Instance uses? >.>
Also i have to keep enlraging the Body Box on my Instance sadly which is kinda annoying -.-

Scenario: you’d like to post to a community. The post would contain some funny satire related to the community topic. Some communities accept this and they state it in their description (sidebar). But it isn’t clear whether that’s OK for the community you want to post to. What to do?
I really enjoy retro aesthetics , especially the Frutiger Aero style. I’m also really interested in old macOS Aqua ‘s design language and Y2K aesthetics.
join-lemmy.org regularly crawls all active Lemmy instances to keep the instance list updated. Additionally it also collects data from all Lemmy communities. The data is now publicly available in the following git repository:
Edit: Okay, so I tried to reproduce this while I was putting together a bug report, and it’s no longer doing it when I was following my “steps to reproduce”. I re-added .ml to my domain filter list, and can still resolve posts to c/Books which has a link to .ml in its description. So maybe it was just a glitch? I’m gonna play around with it and see before submitting it as a bug. But I do know before I removed .ml from that list yesterday, it refused to because of the link in the description (none of the test posts hit on that domain) and consistently said Domain is blocked. :sigh:
I guess being new here I need to understand some things a bit better.
Someone tagged my first post as an ad. I honestly don’t understand why, since it stated reasons to move from mainstream social media to more ethical and meaningful platforms.
If anyone would like to share advice, that would be more than welcome.
@clawd@lemmings.world is one of the LLM bot accounts created by @mudkip@lemdro.id that @Xylight@lemdro.id (the Photon Lemmy frontend developer) phished and leaked the password for: https://lemmings.world/post/40638800 (archive)
There was a discussion about this article 2 years ago here and here, but I thought it’s such an interesting a novel concept full of potential that it’s worth a repost.
So I am trying to get a blog running on my VPS, and I already managed to use WordPress for that, but I really would like something a bit more basic. I also managed to get writefreely running and was not impressed with that (unlike WP it basically just pushed a single link post into the fediverse and didn’t allow any further interactions).
Plume doesn’t seem to be developed anymore.
Is there any other app for single-users that allows federation?
FOSDEM 2026 starts today and there is a Social Web track filled with sessions about Fediverse projects and ActivityPub. The first talk starts at 9:40 UTC.
The conditions that made ‘leaving Twitter’ a meaningful part of the open social web’s identity don’t exist for TikTok. What happens when people can’t see each other leave?
Tech-savvy power user’s experience exposes Quora being led like a sinking ship. Hundreds of millions of users are at risk of having to find a replacement. Fediverse to the rescue?
Chinese propaganda is rampant on the fediverse. We need to discuss ways to combat this. One group- memes or something is wholly controlled by Chinese state actors. What do you think?
Given the situation with TikTok—marked by censorship and the app’s recent control by MAGA-aligned interests—I checked Reddit to see what TikTok users are saying. It turns out many are asking for alternatives. Most replies suggest other proprietary apps, and I haven’t seen any recommendations for decentralized platforms like LOOPS and others from the Fediverse.
It looks like some issues may arise if/when an instance’s domain name changes. Is there any way we can change federation so that we don’t need to rely on such a central point of failure?
For the past couple of weeks, some of us moderators of the subreddit r/Silksong, have been working on an exciting project. We’ve created a lemmy instance for fans of indie games. We officially run and support this instance and the Silksong community on it. Please check it out at !Silksong@indie-ver.se
i was wondering if there was a decent pinterest/we heart it app for the fediverse? i love making aesthetic pinboards and it would be nice to do without being on pinterest (which i believe is facebook)
Central thesis: “In a world where established platforms are turning from the promised rescue of digital journalism to its danger, journalism should consider being active in the fediverse.”
There have been a couple of posts somewhat recently asking what can be done to attract new users to the Fediverse. My answer was basically “make it something new people would want to see and stick around for”. The crux of that was basically less news, less politics, less rage and more, well, anything else.
There seems to be a serious lack of a Discord equivalent fediverse platform unlike other social media alternatives. Most of the closest options are either too overwhelming in UI/UX for majority of people coming from Discord, missing deal-breaking features like video calling or are not federated.
On Digg there’s some drama because someone registered the community “/wallstreetbets,” and the admins took it from him and gave it to one mod of the subreddit “r/wallstreetbets.”
ActivityPub is getting its first formal update path since 2018. I wrote about why this matters, how this leads to some strange and funny power dynamics, and about who actually participate
So I made a script that post once every 8 hours or where I start the script. The script will post to random c/ that has subscribers but low activity from a corresponding subreddit in hopes of jump starting it.
Following https://tarte.nuage-libre.fr/c/fediverse/p/194717/we-need-more-users I decided to explore data a little bit more. I’m not the biggest fan of growth-as-as-target so I wanted to see how much the people were participating in the discussion.
I just tried to make a post on Mastodon and tag a community in it so that my post would show up in that community – something I’ve done many times before.
The host Search Engine, PJ Vogt, and the host of Hard Fork, Kevin Roose, discussed their thoughts about a “new kind of Internet” possible with the Fediverse. They also talked about the challenges of the somewhat technical barrier to entry.
