This community was essentially unmoderated for a while and I’ve been recently approached to take over moderation duties here. What I don’t intend to do is to change any existing rules here but to enforce what has piled up in the moderation queue.

If you ban a Mastodon user on a Lemmy community, does the ban transfer if they migrate instances?

I am trying to follow my own Pixelfed account on Mastodon, but even though I search for, find, and follow my Pixelfed account, none of my Pixelfed posts appear in my Mastodon timeline. I am unsure if the problem lies with Pixelfed, Mastodon or both. Anyone else have a similar experience? I am @5teverin0@mastodon.social, and @5teverin0@pxlmo.com. Thanks.

I wish it was allowed to have persian letter usernames maybe even symbols as usernames it looks really cool and increases the username pool as well.

So I just signed up for Mbin at Fedia.IO, and part of the registration says it will send out an email to complete the registration. Great!

I am sure it was discussed here before, but I can’t find a good way to search this community.

The biggest F U you get while signing up on lemmy is choosing a instance and I know this process acts as a filter in itself, clearing the randoms and normies. But if lemmy instance is assigned randomly, it is like hitting two birds with one stone. it solves discouragement you get when signing up but also distributes the load on different servers. the only downside I see with this is if the instance is closed.

I wish the fediverse would just stick to one set of jargon, and everybody uses the same terms to mean the same thing. Even “instances” should just be called “servers”. That’s all it is. This server talks to that servers, and information is exchanged.

I visit this site probably more than I should, and when I browse, then come back a bit later to browse again, I’m seeing a LOT of repeat content.

Too many shitlords on it treating it like Reddit as they jerk eachother off with their fat folds both on their gargantuan stomachs and chins.

So I feel like I’m doing peertube wrong. I’m trying to find good content, but it feels like every single instance I find is just “here’s the linux news, here’s the new linux tips, here’s the linux gossip, linux linux linux!”

What made everybody move from a corporate social media platform to another corporate social media platform instead of the fediverse?

Hello everyone. Just trying out piefed here in the fediverse. I’m looking for great examples of piefed feeds that work well in mastodon. Would love any recommendations you have.

From a practical sense, ActivityPub may be the obvious choice as it gives easier interop with the largest federated platforms.

I heard often about activityPub being challenging to implement.

So, I was thinking that I joined Lemmy.World because Lemmy had more users than MBin. But today I was looking at mbin.cocopoops.com and started seeing MY posts. I knew Mbin could have different instances. I knew Lemmy could have different instances. And I knew they all federated together.

Lemmy developers have said there are no near plans for allowing users to follow mastodon or other activityPub networks, so I’m considering another platform that can do this.

I know they’re quite different technically. But practically, what does ActivityPub unlock that was not previously possible with RSS and basic web tech stack?

All I can find are third party apps for Bluesky but I can’t find anything like a Lemmy style service or Instagram style service using the AtProtocol

I’ve noticed that there isn’t a single Lemmy community, Mbin magazine etc. for Fediverse memes.

Is there any fediverse client out there (mobile or pc or web) that has support for multiple types of content, rather than just for one?

I’d like to use both, with preferably the same account, but mainly the same android app

I can’t find any working mastodon instances for porn except adult.18plus.social but i need to pay a fee… i̵ ̵n̵e̵e̵d̵ ̵f̵r̵e̵e̵ ̵o̵n̵e̵s̵.̵. (EDITED: SORRY) Actually there used to be Sinblr, Humblr, and others… but they all shut down for some weird reason I don’t understand… WHAT HAPPENED?

I've been trying to use Matrix to replace sites like Discord or Slack. But it seems that if a user creates an invitation-only room in a server, then invited users who are registered on other servers get errors when trying to join. Not very useful error messages either: "Failed to join room". (In my case, I tried creating accounts and rooms at nitro.chat and then at converser.eu, but friends registered at matrix.org don't manage to join).

I am considering using a Fire tablet and a Chromebook and would like to know what OS I need to access the Fediverse suite of apps.

The native lemmy feature for this doesn't work. Maybe it's because my list is thousands of users / communities long. I tried several times and only a handful of these gets moved to the other account and it actually seems that me trying to move them crashes the entire instance.

It seems most instances still use version 0.19.3 and the only one using the up-to-date version is lemmy.ml. They used to update relatively fast. What's changed?

I am trying to post more from peertube than youtube/other sources, just to help out some of the creators (And share stuff I find interesting).

I want to suggest adding a feature that lets user post on their profile rather than communities

We had a really interesting discussion yesterday about voting on Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin and whether they should be private or not, whether they are already public and to what degree, if another way was possible. There was a widely held belief that votes should be private yet it was repeatedly pointed out that a quick visit to an Mbin instance was enough to see all the upvotes and that Lemmy admins already have a quick and easy UI for upvotes and downvotes (with predictable results ). Some thought that using ActivityPub automatically means any privacy is impossible (spoiler: it doesn't).

tl;dr: Be excellent to each other, do something constructive here?

Currently, almost anyone in the Fediverse can see Lemmys votes. Lemmy admins can see votes, as well as mods. Only regular Lemmy users can't. Should the Lemmy devs create a way to make the votes anonymous?

I actually started on Kbin.social, but then it got shut down, Kbin died and now fedia.io seems to be the largest one running MBin. I like the interface on MBin and I guess it's good to have a diverse fediverse with different services, but at the same time, why use mbin when everyone congregates on lemmy instances? The local magazines on fedia are for the most part, quite dead, when compared to lemmy collections. In the end I feel like there aren't enough people to go around to support many more services like MBin and Piefed.

I've been seeing some complaints about paywalled content being posted in the rss.ponder.cat communities.

I am looking for any modern reddit alternative other than lemmy, due to all the problems with the lemmy codebase and the lack of good moderation tools like reddit.

This limitation can be seen as an inconvenience for those who prefer a more integrated user experience within Lemmy itself.
