I am not sure how to word this. I have noticed that some mods have multiple accounts across the fediverse that have the same name and those accounts are modding in the same community. Take for example c/wnc where I mode. If I went over to piefed and crated an account name profthadbach there and add that account as a mod to c/wnc. I am sure that is cool because I have seen it a bunch. Now my question is if I create a community over at piefed called c/wnc and I post some article there do they show up in the lemmy.world c/wnc community and vice versa?

As a little background to the question, I’m moving from where I live because cost of living is way too high. I have found a few apartments that are within my budget but they all have “complementary WiFi”. Is there anything I should be aware of?

My parents have saved tons of boxes of old family photographs growing up. They are fun to look at from time to time, because it used to be a bit harder to create photos. I wonder if the next generation of people will collect moments the same way we used to, seeing how quick and easy things are posted online. I’m sure many of them don’t even have pictures saved locally somewhere and rely on social media and the cloud to store their past.

As someone >90th percentile in height and >75th percentile in weight for the US, I’ve found in the last 5 years I now no longer fit into most “Large” size clothing and need to buy more “Medium” sized clothing. I haven’t lost/gained weight nor shrunk(that I’m aware of). Statistically, numerically and culturally this seems strange.

This could be work or recreational related. Anything you’ve done that you sit back and go “hell yeah I did that”. I’m typically wary of working on cars because I have big hands and no auto specialty tools. But, I was able to make a pretty involved (for me) repair last week and I’ve felt really great about it since. What about you?

I have a bunch of them, mostly stuff from particularly nostalgic periods in my life. I get sentimental so easily haha. I still have this really old fleecy coat I’ve had since I started school. I’d never give it up even though it’s not my style anymore as I mostly wear puffer coats now

I just finished a preliminary interview for a medium sized engineering company. The interviewer was impressed with my background and asked to proceed with my candidacy but wanted four additional rounds of interviews and a 30 minute technical presentation about how I solved a problem. I turned them down and said I don’t work for free, the amount of time it would take to gather my notes and thoughts on a slide deck would be too much. She quickly soured and we ended the call soon after. I feel like I dodged a bullet going through a gauntlet of work for the high chance of ending up with nothing.

Was on the other site when a commenter pointed out a response that and like 5 or 6 replies to that comment that were all bots. I am finally getting exposed to the concept of dead internet theory. So, how prevalent are bots on a place like lemmy? Are there natural safeguards against bots? I’m not an engineer and probably need a dumbed down explanation. But I did make it to lemmy! So I’ve got that going for me…

Would you rather know every language, but switch to a random one after each sentence, or after each year (unable to speak a different language until the following year)?

Mine would totally be the opposite of where my life is now. I’d be thrilled to be play games, whereas I barely play one. I’d be watching lots of shows and movies, whereas now I don’t at all. Any idea I have about going to the gym or doing something active, I’d do it, whereas now I am idealistic about it.

As some of you may be aware, over the past few weeks there have been an increasing number of what I suspect are bots which will share one or even a few posts, all relevant to the communities they are shared in, at which point the account self-deletes. I’m torn as the stories are relevant, but they give me the impression of a narrative attack. I’ve seen only one of these accounts actually comment before deletion, otherwise they post and immediately nuke the account.

I know this question is odd, but unfortunately we have a lot of unhoused addicted people in my city. I often see them sitting on a bench bent at the waist in half like a rag doll, or standing somewhere half bent over, like stooped over nodding out I guess? Qualification:

LLMs and image generation models make it even more difficult for artists and thinkers, who are already in a precarious situation, to make a living from their work. Just curious. Because I think it’s very “rude” in the Chinese Culture where I grew up in, to use the real names of people older than you. You have to address them by relationship like “father/dad” or “older brother” or “oldest aunt” “2nd aunt” “3rd aunt” (ordered by who was born first). Like I don’t think you are supposed to say Aunt [Name] or Uncle [Name]. Names are never used, only the relationship.

I’m hoping someone familiar with Medi-Cal eligibility can help clarify this.
